At its core, Narrative Medicine proposes that a patient and their illness are a story – one with characters, deep relationships, and obscured motivations. Like other skills in medicine, the ability to understand a patient’s narrative is one that can be taught.

The VUMC Narrative Medicine GME certificate program aims to do just that.
